Report:

With Leigh getting lost on their way to Hillsborough and consequently arriving at 7:15 for a 7.30 kick-off, which was delayed until 7:45 there were thoughts, but only brief, that the Eagles could make their mark early on. With the score at 8 nil after 6 minutes, things were looking positive. It wasn't until the 21st minute when Leigh took the lead after tries by Pyke and Mort. Caldron Bravo scored an interception try on 6 minutes for the Eagles which really made everyone feel that the Eagles had a chance, but after that and the opening 6 minutes of the second half it looked as if it was the Eagles who had driven from Leigh and were still on the bus. Nick Turnbull put in an incredible amount of work and this was demonstrated by his tackle count, and the Leigh video and stats man commented on the excellent work put in by the two second rowers. (The other being James Morrow) Grant Farrow again was working hard and with Greg Hurst making excellent metres, it was a shame that some of the others were not working to the same intensity. The forwards, with Tom Buckenham leading the way, and Kyle Kesik as usual being a thorn in the opposition side, were being let down by the defence. The major factor of the Eagles demise was in the fact that they only had 10 sets with the ball in the second half, and only managed a 50% completion rate. That sort of statistic does not make for a successful result. Ryan Powell was the playmaker for Leigh and with his linking up with Tony Woodcock they kept the Eagles under the cosh.  2 tries in 3 minutes of the third quarter, by Gittins and the 2nd for Woodcock, realistically took the game out of the Eagles control and the Leigh machine piled on the pressure with 3 further converted tries and a cheeky drop goal ( his second) by Powell to bring up the 50 points.
