SPECIAL NEWS : AUGUST 2007

South Yorkshire Rugby League Service Area will be hosting a 'Kicking Strategy' Workshop on Thursday 23rd August, 7:00 pm at Wickersly Sports College, Rotherham.

This worksop will help coaches ' explore the importance of kicking within the game of Rugby League. Looking at both offensive and defensive considerations and how to put together coaching sessions to implement strategy for both scenarios. The workshop will also help coaches to:

-Identify the types of kick employed with the game -Understand the outcomes of various kicks -Understand offensive considerations for the kicking game -Identify defensive considerations for the kicking game -Design Coaching sessions build around both offensive and defensive kicking stratagies

URGENT NEWS INFORMATION - 7th May 2007

The South Yorkshire Rugby League Under 14's & 15's games on Saturday 12th May will now be played at Hillsborough Arena, Sheffield (home of Hillsborough Hawks ARLFC) rather than All Saints School, Sheffield (home of Sheffield Forgers) due to the All Saints pitch requiring maintenance work which will be carried out soon.

The kick off times on Saturday will be as follows. Support is welcome for what will be a great day of local Rugby League with the service area games being followed by Sheffield Eagles Senior Academy game against Keighley

South Yorkshire Under 14's V Calderdale: 10:30 am

South Yorkshire Under 15's v Calderdale 11:45 am

Sheffield Eagles Academy v Keighley Cougars 2:30 pm

Service Area Update April 2007

South Yorkshire Rugby League Service Area have announced the Under 12’s, 13’, 14’s  and 15’s squads that will go on to play games against other service area / district sides in May and June in  the Rugby Football Leagues 2007 Service Area Programme. After coming through an initial selection day in January and further progressing from  train on squads that were trimmed down the achievement of these players represents an outstanding opportunity to further progress up the RFL’s player performance pathway. When representing South Yorkshire in service area fixtures each player will be watched under carefully scrutiny by performance analysts from the RFL. Selected players will then go on to attend the Yorkshire Regional camp during the summer which will consist of the 40 most elite players in Yorkshire at each age group. After the regional camp players could also get the opportunity to represent Yorkshire in the RFL regional carnival which also acts as a trial process for national squads. South Yorkshire Rugby League Development Officer and Service Area Coordinator Darren Higgins “The selection of these players represents an early high in their young careers. What has been most pleasing when watching the players train is the ever improving standard of local players which is a reflection of the excellent schools coaching that is being undertaken by both Doncaster Lakers and Sheffield Eagles plus the outstanding work being done by local amateur clubs such as Doncaster Toll Bar, Sheffield Hillsborough Hawks, Sheffield Forgers and Hoyland Vikings”. Sponsorship from local businesses such as Pipers Auto Centre, Warner’s Fish  and Custom Property Developments will  ensure the squads are  been able to train at the best facilities available and no stone will  be left unturned in preparation. This is something that will hopefully be reflected in results when the squads go on to play games against other service area sides in May and June.
