A very full on all action match from the start, Hawks first
touch of the ball saw a good strong drive from Kane Bailey, shortly
followed by a strong mesmerising run straight through the defence from
Joe Furness for a try in the first minute, which Billy (the kick)
Chappel converted with ease. Hawks kept up the pressure forcing a
dropout in the 3rd minute caught and driven forward by Connor Scott,
followed by a big surge from Craig Watson and on five minutes saw Kieran
Howard (Referees man of the Match) go in for a try number 2. The kicking
duty then went to Team Captain Danny Wilson (no problem). Some ferocious
defensive tackling from Kane, Cameron Shone, Conner and Mathew Warren on
the right wing kept the L/boro attack at bay but on 15 minutes they
crossed the line for an unconverted try. Cameron set the pace with a
swerving drive allowing Kieran to burst through with a fast run setting
Joe Furness up for his second try, once again Billy proudly wearing his
dads company logo on his shirt sleeve stepped in with another successful
conversion. After a long and sustained attack by L/boro, the body on the
line tackles from Craig, Cameron and Connor along with the rest of the
Hawks defensive line just wasn’t enough to prevent them scoring a well
deserved converted try. Dominique Collingwood broke through the line and
went on a long run getting the Hawks to the half way line but good
defence forced a knock on halting any further progress. 3 minutes from
the break some excellent pressure from Mathew and Kieran forced a knock
on in our favour resulting in another fantastic run from Kane and the
hatrick from Joe Furness and another conversion from Danny. Half time
24-10 After the break L/boro came out with all guns blazing to be
rewarded on 3 minutes with a converted try. Hawks replied 4 minutes
later with a try from Stefan Kazmierski running on to a neat grubber
kick from Billy. Craig came very close to his first try but was denied
by a defensive boot knocking it out of his hands. An excellent break
from L/boro’s smallest player led Dominique on a mad dash after him but
he was away like the wind to score under the posts. Captain Danny Wilson
propped up the team (pardon the pun) leading from the front making sure
the Hawks regained and held a good grip on the game, although 10 minutes
from time L/boro came close to scoring Craig managed to steal the ball
then after some aggressive drives and neat offloads the Hawks were
camped on L/boro’s try line with Joe Bell, Dominique and what seemed
like the rest of the team trying to score, but after gaining composure
Craig ran onto a beautiful pass enabling him to crash through the
defence like a tank and score, converted once again by Billy. L/boro
attacked again but resolute defending by Connor, Kane, Cameron and Joe
bell caused them to spill the ball and a quick thinking Matthew dropped
on it to regain possession. 1 minute from time the Hawks put in a good
driving, passing set to finish up with Stefan’s second try, the last
kick of the game went to the team captain with the attempted conversion.

3.2.1 Craig Watson. Joe Furness. Billy
Chappel. Halifax Vandals U14s (0)10 Hillsborough Hawks U14s (16) 20 .... 17th September 2006 Note: There will be no match photos as Halifax have not got permission from their parents through the child protection legislation required. Thanks to Ventrolla sponsorship, newly formed Hillsborough Hawks 14’s were able slide the window shut against opponents Halifax Vandals. Hawks could only field 11 players due to injuries but were determined not to show any weakness against a full squad of 17, and 10 minutes into the match Halifax realised there were no chickens in the Hawks side. Craig Watson made a very hard tackle on the Vandals number 13 causing both sets of spectators to cringe. This certainly fired the Hawks up as every hit after that was a big one which certainly knocked the stuffing out of Halifax and forced an error. After setting a good base in attack Joe Furness was able to break numerous tackles and burst through for a try on 5 minutes, converted by Billy (the kick) Chappel. All action from the restart seemed to have the Vandals camped in the Hawks half and with Craig having to be dragged off to have an injury seen to they were down to 10 but fullback Stefan Kazmierski was a blur, whirling like a Kazmanian devil across the back line taking down all attackers. Shortly after soaking up this pressure and back to 11 another Hawks attack saw Joe hand off the defence and storm across the line for his second try. The next 10 minutes was fairly even with good tackling from both sides highlighted by wonderful covering tackle on the wing by Cameron Shone who was doing a good job playing out of position and a spectacular tackle by Kieran Howard on the Vandals biggest player. This lifted Hillsborough again with Stefan Kazmierski winding his way through the defensive line passing to Joe Bell who popped the ball up perfectly for Craig to run onto, who then took himself and 3 or 4 Halifax players over their line to touch down, once again converted by Billy. After more pressure from Halifax Kane Bailey made half way before what seemed like all the Vandals team climbed on his back and stopped him. Half Time 0-16.

Hillsborough Hawks U14s (22) 62 Slaithwaite U 14’s (0) 0 ....15th October 2006 Hillsborough Hawks 14’s were able put out a full team for the first time this season and under strengthened Slaithwaite certainly felt the Hawks dominance, as they recorded their highest score to date with 11 tries and 9 conversions. Hard tackling and excellent teamwork kept the Junior Saracens in their own half for most of the game with any break into the Hawks half being dealt with without too much threat. Kieran Howard opened the score after 2 minutes followed 2 minutes later with a try by Joe Bell. The next 10 minutes saw a stalemate with many handling errors but Captain Danny Wilson brought the team back to life with a try on 17 minutes and 3 minutes later Kieran went over for his second and with Billy Chapell converting 3 from 4 the half ended 22 – 0. The second half was a repeat performance of the first, but the honours went to Kane Bailey with his first ever try for the Hawks after 27 minutes. Joe Furness then burst through the defence to score on 29 minutes and followed this up 5 minutes later with his second, and then Joe Bell scooted over for his second try. Good in your face tackling by Stefan-John Bright, excellent cover defence by Mathew Warren and Stefan Kazmierski readily laying his body on the line to regain spilled ball set up a good platform to allow Cory Vivian and Billy Chapell to boss the game in the middle. Both wingers took advantage of this with debutant Jake Neves-Love diving in for his first try for the team 10 minutes from time, followed 3 minutes later by a cross field manoeuvre by Kieran who popped up a perfect pass just short of the line for Dominique Collingwood to run on to and score his first try for the team. Cameron Shone after putting in some good stops and drives suddenly found himself breaking free and with a neat side step went round the last player and made a 30 metre dash to the try line only to be brought down by desperate tackling a balls width from the line (unlucky Cam). With the territory gained and Hawks camped on the Saracens line it wasn’t long before Craig Watson made an uncharacteristic ‘scoot’ and put the Ball over the line for the 11th and last try of the game easily Converted by Billy the Kick to bring his total to 9 from 11, excellent kicking. Credit must be given to an undermanned Slaithwaite side that never gave up and played the game in extremely good spirit. Team: Cory Vivian, Jake Neves-Love (1 Try), Joe Bell (2 Tries), Stefan Kazmierski, Cameron Shone, Craig Watson (1 Try), Kane Bailey (1Try), Stefan-John Bright, Mathew Warren, Dominique Collingwood (1 Try) Kieran Howard (2 Tries), Joe Furness (2 Tries), Billy Chappel (9 con), Team Captain: Daniel Wilson (1 Try)

3.2.1 Jake Neves-love, Stefan-John Bright, Cameron Shone Top tackler: Craig Watson (23). 117 team tackles. Siddal U14s (22) 46 Sheffield Hillsborough Hawks U14s (0)12 .............. 22nd October A very poor effort all round from the under 14’s gave Siddal an easy run into round 3 of the Yorkshire cup. Hawks looked like late nights and an early 8.30am start had really taken it out of them and they’d forgotten to get out of bed. Forced errors and missed tackles allowed Siddal to boss the game from the start. Craig Watson didn’t look his usual aggressive self and came off early with bruised ribs, which didn’t do much for his tackle count (only 7), not long after that Stefan-John Bright ended up under a pile of bodies and took a hefty knock to the head, the Referee decided he should no longer take any part in the game which gave Connor Scott chance to come on and put in some good defensive hits. The forwards presented Siddal defence with easy targets as they stood like statues when receiving the ball from Joe Bell. Siddal took a deserved 22 – 0 lead into half time. But once again credit to the Hawks for not giving up, and 11 minutes into the second half Kieran Howard blazed through the defence and ran two thirds of the pitch, Danny Wilson finished the move with a crash over the line for a try, converted by Billy Chappel. More pressure from the Hawks was rewarded 4 minutes later when Cory Vivian slipped through from close range for a try, once again Billy the Kick converted. New signing Tshepang Mokotjo came on and certainly showed his potential with no fear tackling and confident ball carrying. Man of the match went to Kane Bailey who was always willing to carry the ball into the action and back up his team mates. Full time 46 - 12 Team: Joe Bell, Kane Bailey, Stefan-John Bright, Billy Chappel (2 Con), Dominique Collingwood, Joe Furness, Kieran Howard, Stefan Kazmierski,Jake Neves-Love, Conner Scott, Cameron Shone, Cory Vivian (1 Try); Mathew Warren, Craig Watson.Team Captain: Danny Wilson (1 Try) Man of the Match: Kane Bailey

Top tackler: Jake Neves-Love (8) 76 team tackles Sheffield Hillsborough Hawks U14's (18) 48 Huddersfield Sharks U14's (0) 8 ...29th October 2006 Hawks under 14’s put in an impressive overall performance to score 9 tries and 6 conversions. The game started with untidy play and handling errors, but Hawks capitalised on 6 minutes with Joe Furness scoring between the sticks . Within 4 minutes a brilliant ball steal by Danny Wilson and powerful run by Kane Bailey who was able pop a pass out to Joe for his second try. Hawks kept up the pressure with any Shark attacks dealt with by Stefan Kazmierski Mathew Warren Dominique Collingwood and a good sliding defence. On 21 minutes Joe ploughed his way through the Huddersfield defence to complete a hatrick with Billy Chappel converting all 3 tries for a half time score of 18-0. After the restart Craig Watson attacked the line and even with Sharks trying to take his legs from under him he kept going and made good ground. Stefan Kazmierski set off on a confident run and Cory Vivian running in support was able to take the ball and fight his way through the defence to score a try. With Huddersfield under constant pressure they were forced to kick early in their sets of six to try and catch the Hawks on the hop, but Mathew Warren was always alert to this and able to chase back taking the high balls on the run and turn defence into attack. Another powerful run by Kane allowed a supporting Conner Scott to dive over for his first try of the season. Now enjoying himself Connor made some good runs and passed out to Danny for him to score, who shortly after received a yellow card for punching in retaliation to an incident. The Sharks seemed to come to life forcing errors and putting some good passing moves together to pressure the Hawks, but good defending by Jake Neves-Love stopped them and received a kick for his trouble by a sharks player who was then shown a red card. New signing Joel Davies showed a turn of pace almost making the try line and as he was tackled passed out to the wing where Jake received the ball and flew over for a try in the corner. Not to be out done Joel put himself in a position to receive a good pass and took the ball over the line for his first try for the team. Credit Huddersfield for not giving up and the last10 minutes saw them put 2 tries past the Hawks defence, with Jake scoring his second try in between and thanks to Bill’s kicking the final score was 48-8. Team: Joe Bell, Kane Bailey, Stefan-john Bright, Billy Chappel (6 Con), Dominique Collingwood, Joe Furness (3 tries), Kieran Howard, Stefan Kazmierski, Jake Neves-Love (2 tries),Conner Scott (1 try), Cameron Shone, Cory Vivian (1 Try), Mathew Warren, Craig Watson.Joel Davies (1 try), Team Captain: Danny Wilson (1 Try) Man of the Match: Jake Neves-Love 3.2.1: Joel Davies, Craig Watson, Danny Wilson. Underbank U14s(16) 26 Hawks U14s (6) 6......5th November 2006 Another frustrating game for the under 14’s who found it difficult to complete a set of six. Unforced errors or a shrill whistle hampered any attack the Hawks tried to mount. Likewise missed tackles or a shrill whistle allowed Underbank the run of the pitch. After 10 minutes Underbank had scored 2 tries but were brought back down to earth as Stefan Kazmierski broke through numerous tackles and sprinted away to score under the posts, with the sure footed Billy Chappell converting. Hawks soaked up the pressure and kept the opposition away from the try line, until a series of mesmerizing decisions from the official marched the hawks back toward there own try line and presented Underbank with a try under the sticks to give them a half time 16-6 lead. Much of the same was carried through into the second half with the rub of the green going to the opposition, then with a yellow card bringing the Hawks down to 12 Underbank were able to capitalise and bring the final score to 26-6.
Connor Scott received the Man of
the Match award for his tough tackling and strong attack. Credit is
to be given to the whole squad for keeping their heads and not turning
the game into a free for all caused by the adverse condition.

Hillsborough Hawks U14s (16) 28 ...12th
November
Hawks under 14’s soared back to their best with a good
win away to Littleborough. Playing uphill on a very heavy and muddy
pitch proved difficult at first with slips and slides causing unforced
errors, but after 6 minutes Hawks scored followed shortly with another,
both tries were converted. Hawks kept up the pressure with good tackling
and strong attack which was rewarded with another try to give a half
time score of 16-0.
Man of the Match: Joe Furness
Sheffield Hillsborough Hawks U14's (16)38 Halifax Vandals (6) 16 .... 19th November 2006 Hawks under 14’s did the double over Halifax with a solid performance which allowed both parents and coaching staff to enjoy the game. A try by Joel Davies on a minute and a half rattled the Vandals, but indiscipline on the part of the Hawks allowed Halifax to advance up the field and on 7 minutes with a succession of penalties the scores were level at 6 each. Mathew Warren broke through and placed the ball down, but realised with the pitch also being marked for American football he was the wrong side of the line and was deemed to have made a double movement when he tried to correct this. On 15 minutes there was no stopping Danny Wilson as he powered over for his trademark try. After attacking runs by Kane Bailey Conner Scott and Joe Furness the ball was passed down the wing to give Kieran Howard a 20 metre dash to the line for a try. The rest of the half was even with both sides unable break through, which on our side was down to the devilish tackling of Stefan Kazmierski and the last ditch tackles made by Dominique Collingwood and Cory Vivian. Half time 16-6 The second half started much the same with Joe Furness scoring after just 1 minute followed 2 minutes later with a jinking run from Kieran to score his second. Hawks were now stringing some good sets together with Tshepang Mokotjo beginning to get a feel for the game and Billy Chappel showing he can run as well as kick. Stefan-John Bright came on to replace the captain, and Joe Swift came on for his second match to get straight in with a clattering tackle on the opposition. Joe Furness ran two thirds of the pitch through the opposition to score his second try. Then on 38 and 41 minutes the Vandals put two tries past the Hawks which rattled them but Captain Danny Wilson came back on and lifted their spirits. Joe Bell came on to add another dimension to the forward line feeding Billy who showed some neat side steps to fool the Vandals, Cameron Shone put in a few tackles and forced a knock on which allowed Craig Watson to break the defence from the base of the scrum and make useful metres. The next set of attacking plays resulted in Tshepang laying a good pass for Man of the match Craig to run onto and crash over for a try, and with Billy ‘the kick’ converting 5 for 7the game ended 38-16 to the Hawks. Full Time (16)38-16(6) Team: Joe Bell, Kane Bailey, Stefan-John Bright, Billy Chappel (5 Con), Dominique Collingwood, Joel Davies (1 Try), Joe Furness (2 Tries), Kieran Howard (2Tries), Stefan Kazmierski, Tshepang Mokotjo, Conner Scott, Cameron Shone, Joe Swift, Cory Vivian, Mathew Warren, Craig Watson (1 Try) ; {Team Captain}: Danny Wilson (1 Try)

Elland U14's (14) 34 Hillsborough Hawks U14's (6) 10 Supplementary Cup…….26 Nov 2006 Hawks had their wings clipped with a poor defensive performance allowing Elland to score after only 3 minutes followed shortly by another. After 10 minutes of stalemate with Joe Furness carrying the ball unwaveringly, only to be halted on every run by determined tackling, Kane Bailey suddenly took the initiative and made a couple of very powerful runs to crash over for a well deserved individual try, converted by Billy Chappel. Dominique Collingwood took the ball but after sprinting along the wing to within metres of the line lost it as he was brought down by good covering defence. Thanks to handling errors by Elland and Kieran Howard with his desperate defence covering for his team mates missed tackles it took them to the stroke of half time before they registered their third try for a 14-6 lead. The second half was played out much the same with Elland scoring a further 4 tries, Billy Chappel realising route one with Joe Furness up the middle was not going to work started to get the ball out wide. The Hawks realised that by moving the ball out to the wing they had a better chance to score, and after a strong diagonal run by Joe the play was set for Joel Davies to run onto the ball and break down the wing to get the Hawks second try. Team: Joe Bell, Kane Bailey (1 Try), Stefan-john Bright, Billy Chappel (1 Con), Dominique Collingwood, Joel Davies (1 Try), Joe Furness,Kieran Howard, Stefan Kazmierski Conner Scott, Cameron Shone, Joe Swift, Cory Vivian, Mathew Warren, Craig Watson (1 Try) Team Captain:

Man of the Match: Danny Wilson : 3.2.1: Joe Furness, Joel Davies, Kane Bailey. Top tackler: Kieran Howard (10): 62 team tackles Hillsborough Hawks (34) 52 Guiseley (0) 0 ...10th December 2006 Hawks under 14’s have set their sights back onto league leaders after an impressive win over a very determined but undermanned Guiseley side. 5 minutes into the game a neat kick into the corner by Billy Chappell saw Stephan Kazmierski and Matthew Warren sprint passed the defence in a mad dash to touch down, which Matthew won by a hairs breadth for his first try for the team. Joe Furness ploughed through the defence 4 minutes later for his first try of the match, followed shortly with a sprint from halfway for his second. After some excellent defence by both teams and penetrating runs from the Hawks forwards, especially big Stephan-John Bright, Hillsborough gained the upper hand by forcing Guiseley backwards and capitalizing on their handling errors. Cory Vivian stepped in at acting half picked the ball for a scoot but was held up short of the line, with the referee not calling held the Hawks kept Corey’s momentum going which allowed him to drop over for a try. Kieran Howard suddenly sprang into action and after breaking tackles and sidestepping he swerved his way to 2 tries in 4 minutes. Billy the kick converted 5 from 6 to bring the half time score to 34-0.
The domination carried on into the second half with Joe completing his hatrick, Danny Wilson became unstoppable with his powerful runs and kick steps, and it was good to see man of the Cameron Shone getting back into the Game. Kane Bailey, Conner Scott, Joe Bell and Joel Davies were ever present in support of attack and defence. Billy certainly showed his authority throughout the game and to the delight of the whole team his quick thinking earned him his first try for the team, and he converted it!!. Dominique Collingwood was being targeted by the Guiseley attack so he was replaced by the defensive Joe Swift who was able to close that wing down. The play then switched to the other wing but they didn’t figure on the ferocious tackling of Jake Neves-Love, who made 4 tackles on the trot to snuff out the Guiseley attack. Craig Watson made some strong runs making good metres which allowed Cory and Billy to play the game on their terms, and for once the whole team played as one with swift passing out to the wing to be followed in ‘choreographed splendour’ by one touch passing back across the width of the pitch for the last pass to be deemed forward. More pressure from Hillsborough caused an error under the sticks from Guiseley and after a brief free for all Kieran picked up the loose ball and got his hatrick. Once again the unwavering Billy converted all 3 second half tries to bring the final score to 52 (34) – 0 Team: Joe Bell, Kane Bailey, Stefan-John Bright, Billy Chappel (1 Try 8 Con), Dominique Collingwood, Joel Davies, Joe Furness (3 Tries), Kieran Howard (3 Tries), Stefan Kazmierski, Conner Scott, Cameron Shone, Joe Swift, Cory Vivian (1 Try), Mathew Warren (1 Try), Craig Watson. Top tackler: Craig Watson (15), 119 team tackles Slaithwaite U14's (0) 0 Hillsborough Hawks U14’s (18) 24 ...17th December 2006 At the Christmas break Hawks under 14’s consolidated their 3rd place position in division one on level points with 2nd place Halifax Vandals but with a game in hand over them. The morning got off to a very disruptive start with the home team turning up late and then having to get someone to remove a small herd of sheep and a few horses from the pitch. This done and after a one sided debate concerning the animal droppings left behind (a matter for child protection) the game finally started, although the pitch was very soft in places it didn’t stop the forwards with Kane Bailey, Craig Watson and Joe Furness laying down the challenge with explosive runs, which easily broke the gain line and set the platform for Cory Vivian to fly under the posts for a 4 pointer in the first minute and with the conversion by Billy Chappell took a 6 nil lead. After more driving runs from Connor Scott and Cameron Shone the play was set on the Saracens try line, Joe Bell got a swift pass out to Billy who put in a mesmerising little grubber kick (that many a Super League player would be proud to perfect, although the coach doesn’t want to see it again) which he chased only to be beaten by Danny Wilson who got there before him to touch down for his first try of the match, which Billy ‘the kick’ dutifully turned into a 12 nil lead on the 4 minute mark. With the pitch becoming very heavy and tiring the big forwards were rotated and with the fresh legs of Stephan-John Bright driving the defence backwards the Hawks were always on the attack. Combined with the clinical kicking of Billy and the persistent chasing of Matthew Warren and Stephan Kazmierski they soon forced Slaithwaite back behind their sticks for a goal line drop out. All 3 Hope Valley boys sprung into action with Jake Neves-Love sprinting around the Saracens defence followed by a Joel Davies line breaker and then a cross field sprint by Joe Furness who was denied just short of the line. Joe bell took control calling the play as he stepped over the ball allowing Danny Wilson to pick up the ball and crash over for his second try, with ‘the kick’ putting it through the sticks to make it 18 nil. With both sides tiring and the game at stalemate the relief on the players faces was easy to see as the referee blew for half time. 0-18 The second half started with the Hawks battering the Slaithwaite defence and with an injured player receiving treatment off the pitch were forced to kick long to try and relieve some pressure, but Joe Furness collected the ball and went on a huge dash up the right wing and with the defence struggling to catch him no one in front and Joel in support it seemed like a certain try, but he didn’t expect the player who was injured earlier to suddenly step back onto the pitch in front of him and manage to spoil the pass to Joel which bounced off his stretching fingertips for a knock on, this the Ref didn’t miss. Joe Bell replaced Cory allowing Tshepang Mokotjo to move to the hooking role and with his strong defence certainly shored up the middle of the pitch, especially with Kieran Howard flying across the pitch to make tackle after tackle and hard hitting winger Joe Swift coming on the Hawks line remained impassable. Although the dropped balls and Saracens defence made it difficult to score, it was inevitable that before long Kieran would force his way over, and with Billy’s 4 from 4 conversions a comprehensive win over the Saracens saw the Final score at 0-24. Team: Joe Bell, Kane Bailey, Stefan-john Bright, Billy Chappel (4 Con), Joel Davies, Joe Furness, Kieran Howard (1 Tries), Stefan Kazmierski, Tshepang Mokotjo, Jake Neves-Love, Conner Scott, Cameron Shone, Joe Swift, Cory Vivian (1 Try), Mathew Warren, Craig Watson, Team Captain: Danny Wilson (2 Tries) Man of the Match: Billy Chappell 3.2.1: Joe Bell, greatly improved and playing out of position; Kieran Howard, always in the attackers face. Hillsborough Hawks U14's (26) 50 Huddersfield Sharks U14’s (0) 0 .... 7th January 2007 Despite the cold, wet and muddy conditions the Hawks under 14’s kept the top of the table within 1 point with a comprehensive 50 nil win over Huddersfield. The Hawks returned the kick off with good passing out to the wing which saw Joe Swift get taken into touch by good covering defence from the Sharks, but quick action at the resulting scrum saw Craig Watson steal the ball and dash for the line drawing in the defence he passed out to Billy Chappell who straightened up the attack and shot through the remaining defenders to score, unfortunately Billy pulled a muscle trying convert his own try. It was all Hawks action from then on with Kieran Howard scoring his first try on 5 minutes converted by Cory Vivian who took over the kicking duties from Billy ‘the kick’. Then minutes later Joe Furness broke the line and there was no stopping his long run to score a breakaway try. Next up was Craig who picked up a loose ball and bulldozed his way for 40 metres through the defence and got a deserved 4 points. Tshepang Mokotjo came on to cover for Billy, who was taken off to prevent further injury and he slipped into the hooking role allowing Joe Bell to show his worth at scrum half and improve his tackle count. On 19 minutes another run by Kieran showed Huddersfield a clean pair of heels resulting in his second try and a half time lead of 26-0. Thanks to Conner Scott who 2 minutes into the second half showed his strength as he muscled his way through for a try, and good hard work down the middle from Cameron Shone, Stefan-John Bright and Kane Bailey, excellent rearguard action from Stefan Kazmierski, covering defence from Jake Neves-love, strong runs and clever thinking on the wing from Mathew Warren, allowed the Hawks to play the game at their own pace. Once again great team work gave Joe Furness
Joe Furness not being stopped by anyone the opportunity to show his skill and pace by winding his way through Huddersfield’s defence to finish off with a sprint over half the pitch and a swan dive under the posts for his second try. Not to be outdone Kieran found every gap in the defence he could and sprinted half the pitch to gently place the ball under the posts for his hat trick. 5 minutes before time Captain Danny Wilson used his pace and size to pick up the ball 2 metres from the line and scoot over for a try, and with Cory Vivian converting 7 from 8 tries the game ended (26) 50-0. A big thank you to Huddersfield Sharks for playing the game in great spirit and never letting their heads go down, and nice to see a Superleague player (Eorl Crabtree) coming down and showing interest in junior rugby. The Hawks put in some tough tackling to regain the ball from kick off and following some strong runs set up Billy Chappel to register his first points of the game, but a strong gust of wind prevented his conversion. The Sharks then hit back with some excellent running from their own half and went down the wing for a well deserved converted try. This rattled Hillsborough and team captain Kieran Howard rallied his troops 6 minutes later saw Billy going over for his second, this time he converted with a perfectly judged wind beating kick. The Hawks were relentless with the pressure and kept forcing the Sharks into ball handling errors. Stefan Kazmierski joined the attacking line and living up to his nickname whirled up the field and through the Sharks defence like the Kazmanian devil he is to score. Just before half time Kieran burst into action scoring 2 tries in 4 minutes, and with Billy having by now got the beating of the wind the conversions brought the half time score to 6 - 28

Short version: The full report: Hawks under 14’s made it 7 league wins on the trot with a very tough away game against third place Halifax Vandals. Sheffield started the brighter with some strong runs putting the team within sight of the try line, quick ball play and fast passing allowed Stefan Kazmierski to open the hawks account on 3 minutes. With Halifax still reeling, Hillsborough kept the pressure up and Joe Furness ripped his way through the defence to open his account on 12 minutes converted by Billy Chappell. The Vandals made a few changes and within minutes had the Hawks on the back foot with their big number 15 scoring twice in 4 minutes to level the game. The stalemate was broken 2 minutes from halftime as Joe Furness went under the posts for a converted try. Half time 10-16. The Hawks started the second half a man down with Captain Kieran Howard in the sin bin, but the team put in extra effort and Joe Furness completed his hatrick. Halifax scored another 2 tries but with Kieran Howard coming back onto the pitch his pace caused problems for the Vandals as he ran rings around their defence to score 2 tries with 1 being converted by Corey Vivian. Halifax forced the tiring Hawks into desperate defending which saw them camped on there own try line, but as the minutes ticked by pride and resolute defence from the whole Hawks team kept Halifax from scoring, and the relief on the faces of all Hawks and their support was very evident as the referee blew the final whistle. Full time 20-32 The team certainly deserve praise as they played the full game without replacements and showed grit and determination not to allow Halifax to take advantage when the ref sent Kieran to the sin bin. Also a well done to Stefan K, Kieran and Billy whom all came close to top tackler with 10 each. Short version: The full report: After 37 seconds new boy Ashley Dillon took the ball from the base of the scrum and crashed over for a try, converted by Billy Chappell. But if the Hawks thought this was going to be easy they were in for a shock, as a much improved Huddersfield Sharks made Hillsborough work very hard for their win. Another 10 minutes were needed before team captain Kieran Howard jinked his way up field to score and receive a bloody nose for his troubles. Trying to muscle the Sharks up the middle of the pitch didn’t work as tough tackling stopped any penetration by the Hawks, and any occasional break was stopped short of the line by excellent cover tackling from Huddersfield. But on 15 minutes Joe Furness broke the line and scampered in for his first try. A disagreement between Connor Scott and the Referee saw him taking a walk to the sin bin, but his team mates closed ranks and Stefan Kazmierski proved his abilities again by tackling for 3 men too keep the Sharks out. Half time score 0-16. The second half started as the first with early points being registered by Kieran as he went in for his second try. Some quick ball play put Huddersfield under pressure and saw Joe Furness run onto the ball in his own quarter brush aside some desperate tackling and complete a wonderful breakaway try. The Sharks hit back 3 minutes later with fast pace and punishing runs which put the Hawks defence into total disarray, and earned them a well deserved try. This certainly lifted Huddersfield as they kept up the pressure with powerful attacks which were only let down (much to the Hawks relief) by handling errors. Unable to break the Sharks down Hawks changed the team by moving Matthew Warren to scrum half which allowed them to try 2 new players on the wing, with Austin Mason making an immediate impact as he was stopped inches from the try line. On the other wing Louis Neves-Love was having the same effect but was deemed to have dropped the ball over the try line (it was reefed out). Then after 15 minutes of intense action from both sides the stalemate was broken and Ashley Dillon scored his second try. Huddersfield never gave up and kept breaking through only to be brought down by the chasing back of Stefan Kazmierski. On 47 minutes the brothers Neves-Love combined in a move which saw Louis pass to Jake and loop round to receive the ball back from Jake and then duck under the defence to score on his debut, and with Billy the Kick converting 5 out of seven the final score was (0) 4-(16) 38 Team: Kane Bailey, Joe Bell, Stefan-john Bright, Billy Chappel (5 con), Ashley Dillon (2 Tries),Dominique Collingwood, Joe Furness (2 tries), Stefan Kazmierski, Jake Neves-Love,Louis Neves-Love (1 Try), Austin Mason, Connor Scott, Cameron Shone, Joe Swift,Cory Vivian, Mathew Warren, Craig Watson Team Captain: Kieran Howard (2 Tries), Man of the Match: Stefan Kazmierski : 3.2.1: Kieran Howard, Ashley Dillon, Louis Neves-Love Top tackler: Stefan Kazmierski (15), 74 team tackles

Hillsborough Hawks U14's (24) 46 Slaithwaite U 14’s (0) 0 ...4th March 2007
The Hawks made short work of Slaithwaite from the very start of the game with the quick thinking Cory Vivian dancing his way through the Saracens defence to open the scoring on 2 minutes. This was followed by some good forward work with the likes of Craig Watson and Kane Bailey battering the Saracens defence mercilessly, and with Ashley Dillon running onto a perfect pass he blasted his way over for deserved 4 pointer. After 4 minutes and Billy Chappell converting both tries we had a 12 nil cushion. It was soon clear that Hillsborough would be the dominant team as the 10 man Slaithwaite were unable to defend their wings effectively and 1 minute later Louis Neves-Love saw the overlap on the wing and fired the ball left with it going through the hands of Cory and Billy who drew in the defence allowing Team captain Kieran Howard to score in the corner. After a mistake by Hillsborough, Slaithwaite were awarded a scrum, but their possession was short as pressure by the Hawks forced the ball loose which the forwards capitalised on and another fast passing move out to the wing saw Kieran dash to the corner passing at the last moment to Joe Swift who crossed the line for his first try for the team. Joe Furness and Cameron Shone took control up the middle of the park and thanks to the hard yards gained a platform was built for Conner Scott to power up to the try line and with the Saracens all over him he was still able to twist in the tackle and force his way over for a well deserved try and thanks to the hard tackling from Jake Neves-Love, Stefan Kazmierski and Craig the Saracens were unable to penetrate the Hawks defence. Half time score 12 – 0 Stefan Kazmierski once again showed his class as he joined the attacking line to score 2 tries in the first 4 minutes of the second half. Kieran broke free and sprinted across the try line only to turn round and pass to the closely supporting Swifty who took the ball and dropped for his second try. A misjudged blocking move by a Hawks player raised the temperature slightly on the Slaithwaite side but Hillsborough managed to keep their cool for the moment. But with a Craig’s try being disallowed and a few afters from certain Saracens followed by Austin Mason receiving a cynical kick to his stomach after his try was ruled out, snapping point came when Kane retaliated to foul play by punching the offender, both received a yellow card. Stephan-john Bright was having a good game with his forward runs and an excellent kick return and combining with Joel Davies and Connor Scott got the ball to within the Slaithwaite ten meter line, then Austin Neves-love took the ball on an angled run allowing him to crash over the line for a try. The Game was then wrapped up after 46 minutes when Ashley Dillon exploded from the halfway line palming off and side stepping would-be defenders to run in comfortably for his second try of the match. With Billy converting this try the final score was 46 - 0

After a very even 5 minutes Jake Neves-Love broke through 5 defenders to score his first try which Billy Chappel converted. Underbank soon showed the Hawks that the game was far from over by scoring twice in 4 minutes, but Hawks team captain Kieran Howard put the ball over the line to bring the scores level for half time at 10 each. The second half was fast and furious with both teams battling for a win but Underbank came out on top by exploiting the Hawks poor tackling, allowing them to score 2 unanswered tries in 6 minutes and with both being converted gave the Rangers a 12 point lead. Not to be out done a swift passing move gave Kieran the opportunity to show his speed by running almost the length of the pitch to score his second try under the posts. 2 minutes later Jake took himself and 3 Rangers over the try line only to be denied a score by the Referee. But 3 minutes later Kieran blasted his way over for his hatrick, which put the score at 20-22 to Underbank. With 15 seconds until fulltime the Hawks defensive pressure forced a knock on from Underbank, and from the resulting scrum Ashley Dillon burst 30 meters to force his way over for the crucial winning try. Full time 24-22 For such a marvellous team effort the whole team was awarded Man of the Match……Well done all.

A Hillsborough Hawks under 14’s finished their first season together by winning the West Riding League Division One title. They started the game knowing that a loss to Guiseley would give them second place but team captain Kieran Howard had no intentions of letting that happen as 2 minutes into the match he burst up the left wing from half way to score under the posts, which Billy Chappell converted. Ashley Dillon burst through the mid field defence to score in the right corner 2 minutes later. The Hawks soaked up a lot of pressure as the Rangers used their big forwards to run down the sloping pitch with Craig Watson putting in tackle after tackle, Joe Swift put in a try stopping tackle on the Rangers biggest player but came off worse and played his last part in the game, but on 8 minutes Guiseley managed to score a converted try. Suddenly the Hawks realised they still had to win this game and Kane Bailey, Conner Scott and Cory Vivian showed that they were not going to go down easily as they powered forward to make good uphill metres. This allowed Dillon to roar through the defence for his second try. With the introduction of Andrew Farrow the Rangers suddenly found a new dimension to the Hawks defence with his hard hits being heard all round the park. Quick thinking from Joe Bell got Hillsborough back on the attack with ball out to the wing sending Joel Davies on a strong run up the right wing to put another 4 points on the board. Just before half time Guiseley broke the Hawks defence to run in a converted try to bring the scores to 12 – 20. With a squad of 20 players and the final game of the season changes were made to give everyone a run out and such is the depth of the squad it caused no disruption, and on the restart it wasn’t long before Jake Neves-love scored a try. Guiseley tried to exploit the change in players out on the wing but Austin Mason stood his ground not letting them pass, so the attack changed up the middle only to be met by strong tackles from Stephan-John Bright and Cameron Shone who also showed their attacking ability making good metres up field. Dillon took advantage of the metres gained by the forwards and had the defence falling off him as he made a dash for the line and scored his hatrick. William Blackwell made the defence suffer as he used the downhill slope to keep his momentum going and his ability to draw the defence to him and offload the ball in the tackle allowed Joe Furness to keep himself in line for the top try scorer award as he beat off the rest of the defence to score under the posts. Louis Neves-Love kept the defence busy with sniping runs from dummy half and the return of Danny Wilson in his first run out since breaking his leg lifted the hawks even higher and they battered Guiseley mercilessly which resulted in Ashley Dillon scoring 2 more tries bringing his total haul to 5. Billy Chappell also delighted his team mates by showing them his kicking is back on form by converting 6 from 9. A sudden burst from Guiseley saw them break the Hawks defence and they looked sure to score, but the ever reliable Stephan Kazmierski in his role as fullback never gives up and brought the attack to a halt just centimetres from the try line, but with the Hawks unable to get back to defend in strength and quick ball play the Rangers managed to twist over for a third converted try. This was the last play of the game and with the referees whistle blowing the Hawks and their spectators erupted with cheers. Final Score 18 - 44 Team: Kane Bailey, Joe Bell, William Blackwell, Stephan-John Bright, Billy Chappel (6 con), Joel Davies (1 try), Ashley Dillon (5 tries), Andrew Farrow, Joe Furness (1 try), Stefan Kazmierski, Austin Mason, Jake Neves-Love (1 try), Louis Neves-Love, Conner Scott, Cameron Shone, Joe Swift, Cory Vivian, Craig Watson, Danny Wilson Team Captain: Kieran Howard (1 Try), Man of the Match: Ashley Dillon. 3.2.1: Stephan Kazmierski, Joel Davies, Cory Vivian.
