Hawks (20) 42 Halifax Vandals (0) 0
...10th September 2006
The Hillsborough Hawks U12's made a fantastic start to
their league campaign with a resounding home victory against a
determined Halifax vandals team.
Hawks started promisingly and after three minutes were rewarded with a
try and conversion from captain Cory Aston. The strong attack continued
and Jack Mitchell scooted over the line for the second try. Strong
defence from Hawks forced mistakes and led to attacking possession and
two further tries from Luke Turner and Matthew Bloomer. The fourth try
was successfully converted by Jack Mitchell giving a half time score
20 - 0.
The second half started positively with more excellent defence and ball
handling skills. Ashford Mayne and Craig Chapman made some big runs
leaving space out wide for Aston to score his second try. Hawks fitness
levels proved a key factor in maintaining the pressure on Halifax and
further tries followed from Mitchell, Morgan Brindley and Bloomer. All
converted successfully by Mitchell (2) and Aston giving the final score
of 42 - 0.
All spectators were highly impressed and expect great success this
season for the U12's. Hawks travel to Queensbury next Sunday.

Hillsborough Hawks U12 (12) 22 Queensbury Juniors U12
(0) 4 ......17th September 2006
Hawks travelled to
Queensbury for their first away match of the season and were pleased to
come away with another win. Hawks played down hill for the first half
with an early try from Matthew Bloomer, converted by Jack Mitchell. When
Queensbury had the ball Hawks defended very well and limited their
possession. Queensbury also defended well keeping Hawks to just one
further try and conversion from captain Cory Aston giving a half time
score of 12-0.
Hawks knew it would be hard work going up the hill in the second half
but they continued the pressure and played the slope to their advantage.
Two well worked tries followed from man of the match Greg Burns and
Matthew Bloomer with one conversion from Jack Mitchell. A solid defence
during this half led to a single try from Queensbury despite them having
the advantage of the slope.
Another excellent team performance despite being down to the bare 13 due
to illness and injury.

October 2006
County Cup
Hawks got their county cup campaign off to a
flying start with a resounding win over Wyke. Early pressure resulted in
the first try from Craig Chapman successfully converted by Cory Aston.
Good handling skills played their part in the second try which was well
finished off by Morgan Brindley and converted by Jack Mitchell. Strong
defence kept Wyke pinned deep in their own half and three further tries
from Greg Burns, Matthew Bloomer and Cory Aston, two converted by Jack
Mitchell and Cory Aston giving a half time score of 28-0.
The second half started with Hawks continuing to pile on the pressure
but strong defence from Wyke limited the number of tries in this half.
The first try came from a break on the half way line by Cory Aston, he
was well supported by Carl Thomas who went on to score under the posts,
converted by Jack Mitchell. Wyke tried to get on the score sheet but
strong defence from all players prevented any score. The final try came
from Jack Mitchell giving a final score of 38-0 and progression in to
the next round.
Man of the Match today was Thomas Hague
for his overall game involvement and strong tackles. A great team
performance.

Illingworth U12s (10) 14 Hillsborough
Hawks U12's (0) 6 ...15th
October 2006
Hawks travelled away to Illingworth and lost their first league game of
the season through some lapses of concentration in defence and positive
attack from the opposition.
Illingworth were first on the score sheet with an unconverted try. Hawks
then faced further disappointment when captain Cory Aston went off
injured and was unable to return, the team had to reorganise themselves
and took a while to get used to their new positions. Illingworth took
advantage and scored again to give a half time score of 10-0.
Second half started more positively but strong defence from the
opposition kept the Hawks scoreless until Man
of the Match Morgan Brindley scored with 9 minutes to go and Jack
Mitchell scored the conversion. This put the result in the balance but
Illingworth took advantage of minor errors to score a further try just
before the final whistle, Hawks battled but were unable to score in the
dying minutes.

Embassy Longhill U12s (0) 4......
22nd October
The Hawks drew Embassy Longhill at home in the second
round of the County cup and were expecting a tough game from the Hull
team.
The first 10 minutes of the match were very even with both teams trying
to make an impression but failing to get on the score sheet. Hawks were
the first to score with a well worked try from Matthew Bloomer. Hawks
continued to push for more points in this first half but a strong
Embassy defence kept the scoreline at 4-0 going in to half time.
Embassy started the second half a little stronger and were rewarded with
an early try. The game was now in the balance and remained a nail biting
4-4 for the next 15 minutes. Thrilling entertainment for all spectators
as both teams performed well in attack and defence but failed to score.
With just 3 minutes remaining Morgan Brindley burst through a gap that
didn't exist to touch down and gain the vital points. Hawks managed to
keep the ball for the dying minutes to secure the game and their
position in the quarter finals. Final score 8-4
A fantastic team performance from all 13 players made the Man of the
Match selection very difficult but it was decided
Jake Johnson should receive the honours
for his strong performance.

October 2006
Hawks travelled to Newsome for the second round of the
West Riding Cup.
Hawks had only 12 players but that didn't deter them as
they made a fantastic start. Man of the match
Jack Mitchell
scored a
great individual try straight under the posts in the first few minutes
successfully converted by Cory Aston. Hawks continued to put on pressure
in defence and soon got the ball back. Strong running from the forwards
resulted in Jack Mitchell scooting over for his second try which he
successfully converted. Jack scored one more try in the first half to
give a score of 16-14 going in to half time and leaving the result in
the balance. Both teams played well. Daniel Bell found space to score
and although Newsome replied, progression for the Hawks to the quarter
finals was assured
Once again a brilliant team performance

Quarter Final of West Riding Cup
Sheffield Hillsborough Hawks U12s 4 - King Cross U12s
10....5th November
2006
Hawks U12's faced King Cross in the quarter final of the County cup.
King Cross have been unbeaten for the last three seasons, are top of the
premier league and have not conceded a try for the last three games.
Hawks knew they had to perform to the best of their ability to prevent a
walkover and needed a bit of a luck to pull off a shock win.
Unfortunately this was not the case despite a valiant effort from the
team.
They got off to a bad start when they conceded an early try as a result
of King Cross's excellent passing. Strong defence and good tactical
kicking kept hawks in the game until King Cross spotted an opening again
and took their chance well. Half time 10-0.
Hawks turned round the second half with a slight wind advantage and put
everything they had into the game. A precise kick and chase from captain
Cory Aston resulted in a try which opened the game up. Both teams
battled for the final 10 minutes but neither were able to break through
the superb defence to add to the score sheet. Final score 10-4.
Man of the match awarded to Greg Burns.

Hawks U12's continued their successful run in the league with a
comfortable home victory over a strong Queensbury squad. Hawks were
first on the score sheet within the first few minutes after good
handling from Cory Aston and Jack Mitchell led to a well worked try for
Morgan Brindley. Hawks showed strength in defence forcing Queensbury
into making errors and were soon rewarded with a further try. Man of
the match Matthew Bloomer was the scorer after a determined run
and Jack Mitchell converted. Queensbury caught the Hawks of guard to
score their only try this half. Hawks continued to attack with some good
ball handling and strong drives up the pitch. Morgan Brindley scored his
second try, which cory Aston converted to give a half time score of
16-4.
Hawks showed no sign of tiring and used their strong forwards well to
make holes in the defence. Quick thinking from Jack Mitchell resulted in
a second half hat trick. He was well supported by accurate passing and
excellent play from the rest of the team. Cory converted one of these
tries. Queensbury's only reply was a single converted try although they
never gave up.
An excellent all round team performance. Siddal in the cup at home next

West Riding Cup Quarter Final
Hawks U12's met a powerful Siddal side in the quarter
finals of the West Riding Cup. Both teams played some fantastic rugby
but Siddal always had the advantage with their much bigger players.
The first half began with Siddal using their strength and size advantage
to break through the usually solid Hawks defence. Siddal scored three
tries, converting two to Hawks one giving a half time score of 16-4.
Hawks scorer was captain Cory Aston.
Hawks started the second half more positively after learning from their
earlier mistakes and tightened up on defence. They were the better side
in this half but were unfortunately unable to turn the score line around
to their advantage. Cory Aston was once again on the score sheet, Jack
Mitchell successfully converted. Siddal scored only one unconverted try
to give a final score of 20-10.
Hawks demonstrated some fantastic rugby skills in one of their best
performances this season.

the ball with excellent precision. Strong individual performances from

performance from captain Cory Aston. The good run of form continued with
8 tries and 4 conversions.

December 2006
Hawks who are second in the league played the top of the table,
Illingworth today. The game was a great advertisement for junior
rugby league. It was played on a heavy, muddy pitch but Hawks tried to
play good attacking rugby and handled well despite a few mistakes. Jack
Mitchell was first on the score sheet after 10 minutes, a further try
from Carl Thomas soon followed with a successful conversion from captain
Cory Aston. Only strong defence from Iliingworth kept the score line to
10-0 at half time.
Illingworth started the second half strongly but were unable to find a
way through the well organised Hawks defence. Hawks soon turned defence
in to attack with a kick deep into Illingworth territory from Cory
Aston, resulting in a try for Cory Aston. Hawks continued to attack and
were rewarded with two further tries from Jack Mitchell and Daniel Bell
giving a final score of 22-0.

7th January 2007
The U12's made a
great start to 2007 with another convincing away win. They also kept a
clean sheet and have now only conceded one try in the last four matches.
Hawks started playing against the elements in the first half. Early
handling mistakes were seen from both sides but Hawks soon settled into
their game plan with Jack Mitchell making some strong breaks from acting
dummy half and getting Hawks into strong field position. The pressure
was obvious on Newsome's defence and jack scored the first try. Newsome
tried to counter attack but Hawks defence was solid throughout the team.
Jack again broke from dummy half and ran from just inside the opposition
half to score his second well deserved try. Hawks kept up the pressure
and Morgan Brindley scored the third try just before half time.
Hawks continued to dominate in the second half and despite valiant
effort Newsome had no reply to the strong attacking play from the Hawks.
Good tactical kicking from captain Cory Aston kept the ball in Newsome's
half and further tries followed from Cory Aston, Daniel Bell and Carl
Thomas. No conversions were scored today due to the strong wind and
muddy pitch.

Hawks were soon on the score sheet after only a few minutes of the first

led to another try from Daniel Bell. The Hawks defence was solid
throughout keeping Underbank on the back foot, this resulted in another
try from Luke Turner, successful conversion from Cory Aston. Half time
score 14 - 0
Hawks came back from the break hungry for more points and soon piled on
the pressure with slick handling skills from the backs resulting in Cory
Aston scoring under the posts. Successfully converted by Jack Mitchell.

Illingworth U12's (0) 10 Hillsborough Hawks U12's (8)
16...22nd April 2007
Hawks travelled to Illingworth for their first game in 6 weeks, this was
also the first game since they were confirmed champions of the league.
Illingworth are the only team to have beat Hawks during their league
campaign so both teams were determined to win.
Early pressure from the Hawks led to Kyle Newton scoring his first try
for the club. The teams were very evenly matched with both attacking at
every opportunity and defending vigorously. Jack Mitchell scored the
second try on the stroke of half time to give a half time score of 8-0.
Illingworth picked up the pace in the second half and looked the better
side for a short period. Greg Burns and Cory Aston were jointly awarded
the man of the match for their relentless tackling which made it very
difficult for the opposition to make any ground. Illingworth eventually
broke through and scored from a well placed kick. Hawks again stepped up
a gear in attack to show why they are the champions and Greg burns
scored a good individual try. Dominic Mannion scored the try of the
match in his debut game, he broke through half a dozen tackles to get
the ball over the try line. Illingworth broke through again in the dying
seconds but it was not enough to steal the victory.

Newsome U12's (0) 10Hawks U12's (12) 22 .....
29th April 2007
U12's finished off a remarkable season with a win in
their final game. They have only lost one league game this seson and
have scored over 550 points while conceding only 60.
Hawks travelled to Newsome knowing a win was neccessary to deserve their
league winning celebrations. They started positively and were soon on
the score sheet with a well deserved try from Craig Chapman who broke
through three tackles to score under the posts, conversion from Cory
Aston. Hawks were made to fight all the way with strong defence from the
opposition but soon got over the line again with good team work leading
to a try from Greg Burns, converted by Jack Mitchell to give a half time
score of 12-0.
Hawks scored again five minutes in to the second half, the forwards made
good ground and Dominic Mannion took advantage and powered his way over
the line, conversion from Cory Aston. Hawks led 18-0 at this point but a
few errors led to Newsome getting back in to the game and scoring two
break away tries down the hill. Hawks continued to battle and were
rewarded with a final try from Jack Mitchell to give the final score of
22-10.
Man of the Match : Dominic Mannion for a very strong performance
in only his second game.
A well deserved win for the whole team and fantastic celebrations
afterwards to celebrate winning the league in their first season of
