Under 15s - Premier Division - Fixtures
Under 15s - Premier Division - Reports Hillsborough Hawks (0) 0 Newsome Panthers (20) 48 - 11th September Hillsborough started their Premier League campaign with the most difficult of challenges, a home tie against last seasons champions Newsome Panthers. Hillsborough contributed to their own downfall by making a poor start to the game conceding 14 points in the first few sets of play. Only after this did they manage to mount a serious challenge and keen defence restricted Newsome to only one converted try in the remainder of the first half to turn around 0-20 down. Hillsborough had a bright start to the second half pushing for a try. Then Newsome used their class and scored a bundle of cleverly worked tries. Towards the end of the game the Hillsborough squad started to tire and a few more tries were conceded. Overall this was the most difficult start possible and there were many positives. Jackson and Bojang made promising debuts, the former was named man of the match. Hawksworth and Battye shone in the forwards and Tyers and Khoza made strong contributions in the backs. The squad has lost a number of players from last year and new players are most welcome to Tuesday training at (6pm). Report by Dominic Hunter Hillsborough Hawks 10 Huddersfield Sharks 32 : 18th September
Hillsborough’s local derby with Huddersfield Sharks turned into a bruising encounter.
Hillsborough had their customary slow start which Huddersfield needed no invitation to exploit. In no time they established a 12-0 lead with two well worked converted tries. This was the spur the Hawks needed, Jackson’s constant probing was rewarded with a fine try but the conversion from Swire went astray. Hawksworth made no such mistake when adding the extras to Vivian’s close range effort. The teams turned around with only 2 points between them. The Hawks wilted under Huddersfield’s aggressive approach which tested the match officials. Unfortunately the Hawks ill discipline saw their first half rally go to waste as two sin bin offences left the defence threadbare and Huddersfield scored four times to record a flattering 10-32 victory. The Hawks had several fine individual displays of which Vivian’s solid defence was the pick. They need a solid team spirit before they will record a victory in this premier league. Man Of The Match: Benjamin Vivian

Hawks were not up to their required standard today at
Huddersfield Sharks. An early knock on sent Sharks under the
posts for their first converted try, more poor play followed and
Sharks used their team to the full to establish a 16 point lead
early in the half. Hawks then started to play to their
potential, completing a number of well played sets eventually
turning into a try scored by Jackson, this was converted by
Swire. At half-time the game was still in the balance at 16-6. Man of the Match was deservedly earned by the Hawks captain Daniel Hawksworth
Report by Dominic Hunter
Hillsborough had a bright start to this encounter with
Queensbury by scoring two tries in the first ten minutes, one
unconverted try by Sheard and the second was touched down by
Swire and converted by Hawksworth. Hillsborough squandered a
number of chances which could have killed Queensbury off. This
made Queensbury wake up by scoring 3 tries, one which was
converted. This led to a 10-14 lead at half-time to Queensbury.
The second half was one of the poorest Hawks had ever played.
Many mistakes were made and this resulted to a 10-36 lead.
Latham touched down in the corner to lift the Hawks spirits
temporarily before crashing back down to earth with another two
tries by Queensbury. This left the score at full time: 14-48.

Newsome 32 Hillsborough Hawks 0 ...... 27th November
This match was abandoned at half time after a serious injury to Hawks prop Ashley "Basher" Statham. Basher sustained a broken leg whilst driving the ball at the Newsome line. A major challenge became an impossibility when illness reduced the Hawks' squad to 11 fit players. Yet the team performed creditably and did not conceded in the first 10mins and where unlucky not to open the scoring when Fox followed up a smart chip only for the Panthers to scramble the ball dead. When Newsome opened the scoring they gained sufficient momentum to cross the line almost at will. Vivian's distribution and defence shone and he was ably supported by Hawksworth and Tyers who grafted hard for the cause. Newsome played expansive football and made the most of their advantage to open up a 32 - 0 gap before the injury brought a premature ending to proceedings.

Hawks started this bruising encounter in excellent fashion compared to other games with a returned kick off and some hard hitting defence and a fast unpredictable attack. A number of errors led to Wibsey scoring two tries in two minutes leaving the score at 0-12 to Wibsey. Good pressure exerted by Latham gained the Hawks a good field position which , Sheard exploited by finishing a flowing handling movement he dived in at the corner for Hawks first try in two months. After this Hawks were poor in both attack and defence, Wibsey took the advantage and ran in a number of tries leaving the half time score at 4-30.
Hawks had to play up the hill in the second half, and Wibsey once again took advantage using the slope and a weary defence to score a number of tries leaving the full time score at 4-72. The score does not reflect on how Hawks played as in spells they looked the better team.
Man of the Match: BATTYE earnt his man of the match reward, he was at the heart of the attack in most plays and defended well. Hawksworth assisted him in similar fashion and Latham had a strong game with his defence and attack.

Queensbury Juniors (4) 16 Hillsborough Hawks U15’s (0) 0 ....February 12 - 2006
Hillsborough arrived in Queensbury on a high from their win against Elland a week ago. Hawks hoped to exploit this against Queensbury, starting the game with added confidence. The sodden pitch and a battering wind combined to provide the most challenging of conditions. Hawks exchanged blows with Queensbury both being strong in attack and defence. The Hillsborough defence was eventually broken down when Queensbury threw the ball down the line and the winger raced in for the try. The rest of the first half was tough with both sides’ defences being worked hard. Hawks had a golden opportunity to even the game out near half time but a knock on cut out the possibility.
Half time score: 4 - 0 Hawks put in raw effort in the second half with the Queensbury attack being worked hard. Another opportunity to square the game came along but once again a knock on hampered the Hawks celebrations. Queensbury intercepted a poor pass and the winger touched down to make the game 0-12. Hawks played their hearts out with Battye and Hawksworth both running hard and putting in big hits consistently. Hawks spirits were demoralised with Queensbury scoring a late try to make the final score 0-16. The score did not reflect on how the Hawks played.
Man of the Match: BATTYE earned his man of the match reward with him putting in over 30 drives and well over 20 tackles. HAWKSWORTH was not far behind him with a similar amount of drives.
LATHAM put in an impressive performance on his last appearance this season.

Comment from a Hawks supporter: Dom I think you should have mentioned yourself in the match report , today you were awesome . Credit to Hillsborough with only 13 players no subs and a couple of very tired* (Edited comment!) players !!! Dewsbury played to their supporters: I say fair play to Hillsborough for giving a bit back. My man of the match would go to Dominic Hunter and to Daniel Hawksworth for the guts he showed.. March 2006
Hawks travelled to Elland on
a windy day expecting a hard, physical and encounter as
they sought their first double of the season. Reality
contradicted expectations as straight from the kick-off
Hawks looked the better side both in attack and defence.
Within two minutes of the starting whistle Vivian
crossed for a well worked try, converted by Hawksworth.
Elland looked the poorer side with an error-strewn
attack and a leaky defence. Hawks took full advantage of
this with a number of tries from Tyers, and Jackson,
(2). Hawksworth added a single conversion to build up a
20-0 lead, a near perfect half was marred by a late
Elland try. Report: Dominic Hunter

Seasonal farewell
Newsome showed their Championship credentials by putting a weakened and understrength Hawks squad to the sword. A difficult task became almost impossible when late withdrawals reduced the Hawks team to eleven fit players. A hesitant and error ridden Hawks start followed which allowed Newsome to display the skills which have enabled them to dominate the premier league. It was not until just before the interval when the Hawks put their hosts under any meaningful pressure and Hawksworth was cruelly denied at the corner. The second half provided little respite as Newsome scored almost at will. Ryan Morton made a good impression on his debut in testing circumstances and Hawksworth showed up well in a pack that struggled to match the Panthers for power. This game concluded the Hawks first season in the premier competition. A squad light in numbers has competed hard all season and recorded three victories. Credit needs to go to the team who have faced a steep learning curve, attendance at training and games has been high and the experience should be valuable when the squad reassembles for next season.
