Hawks U15's 16 Hunslet Parkside 10
The Under 15s won their fixture in a closely fought match, 16 - 10. This was a much improved performance by the U15s after disappointing results in recent friendlies. Up against a strong and well drilled team, the U15s produced one of their best performances to date in what was expected to be a comfortable run out for Parkside. Hawks monopolised the play and forced Parkside into unforced error after unforced error with a massive effort from their forwards. Lead by captain Blake Marshland-Gray the Hawks dominated the first half after Parkside took an early lead with a penalty kick. Despite having all of the possession, Hawks found it difficult to get through the resolute Parkside defence and were only able to register 2 first half tries scored by Andy Farrow and Ashley Dillon, conversion by Cory Vivian. Half Time: Hawks 10, Parkside 2.
The second half saw more of the same with the Hawks only troubling the scoreboard once through a short range try from Ashley Dillon which was converted by Cory Vivian. The final quarter was much more evenly balanced, Hunslet showing at last that they are a quality side. A ragged Hawks defence allowed Parkside to score 2 unconverted tries from broken play to take them within a score of the Hawks, but the Hawks held on to win.
Man of the Match: Jake Neves-Love for his outstanding and uncompromising defence and his darting runs.

The newly promoted Hawks under 15’s started a new season at home against last seasons closest rivals Underbank. Hawks opened the scoring but Rangers soon hit back to level the scores, followed up with another converted try 3 minutes later. Second half saw Underbank tire and further pressure from Hillsborough forced gaps in their defence allowing a further 5 tries, with Man of the Match, Conner Scott breaking several tackles to race 45 metres to score, final score 44-12.

The U 15’s started off well and played some very good open football and showed some good touches. The referee did not enamour herself to either side and a good number of decisions went against the Hawks when they were in a good position to score or make progress. Littleborough were constantly on her back questioning decisions, particularly the number 13, but they had two excellent players in numbers 7 and 8. Hawks tried hard and did not deserve to lose by such a large margin.
Man of the Match : Not awarded

Sheffield Hillsborough Hawks (12) 40 Halifax Irish (4) 14
West Riding Cup Rnd 2
A good old fashioned West Riding Cup match pitching Hillsborough Hawks U15’s against the newly formed Halifax Irish (out of last seasons Halifax Vandals) club.
Hawks opened their account as early as the 2 minute with a well worked try from Billy Chappell, converting his own kick. This was to be followed by a first try from Joe Furness in the 15 minute again converted. Some sloppy play though and sustained pressure from the Irish led to a scorer from them close to half time, and the Hawks Under 15’s were lucky to go in at 12-4 in the lead.
The second half was a different story. Excellent pressure from the Hawks and good ball distribution from Joe Bell at Hooker saw a succession of scores for Hawks, with further tries from Kieran Howard (2), Joe Furness (1), Andy Farrow (2) and Cory Vivian (1) with conversions from Cory Vivian and Connor Scott. Halifax Irish to their credit never gave up and scored a further 2 well worked tries and 1 conversion. The final score was 40-14 in Hawks favour. There was excellent work throughout from the props William Blackwell and Connor Scott with superb backing up from second rows and Craig Watson at loose forward.
In the end, the difference between these 2 clubs showed with Hawks in the Premiership and Irish in the 1 division, but Hawks were really put to the test by a spirited Halifax Irish side.
Hawks Team: Joe Bell, William Blackwell, Billy Chappell, Andrew Farrow, Joe Furness, Kieran Howard, Tom Kay, Stefan Kazmierski, Louis Neves-Love, Connor Scott, Joe Swift, Cory Vivian, Craig Watson, Jake Wells.
Scorers: Billy Chappell (2 goals 1 try), Joe Furness (2 tries), Andy Farrow (2 tries), Kieran Howard (2 tries) Connor Scott (1 Goal), Cory Vivian (1 Goal 1 try).
Man of the Match: Connor Scott

Sheffield Hillsborough Hawks 16 West Bowling 16
Hawks would have won this match if the referee had not played an extra 12 minutes in the second half. The playing conditions were dreadful with a very slippery ball, pouring rain and very cold. The defence of the Hawks was so much improved compared with the two teams' last encounter. There were some excellent attacking runs and the Hawks were very unlucky not to have scored a couple of other tries. (Ed)

For 25 minutes a brave Hawks team battled with 11 men in the West Riding Cup Semi-Final Match. They fought hard and proud but a strong Queensbury team was just too tough a nut to crack. Keiron Howard scored Hawks' try on 27 minutes and Joe Furness was awarded Man of the Match for his excellent running and great tackles. A very good team performance.

More poor refereeing denies Hawks spoils and allows the visitors to capitalize in a game the Hawks could have won.
Jake Neveslove ran in a full length of the pitch try in the first half and another try from the half way line in the second half to earn him the man of the match with a solid display in support from Kazmierski.

Sheffield Hillsborough Hawks U 15's (0) 0 Queensbury U15's (40) 76
The Hillsborough lads knew from the start it would be a tough game with League leaders Queensbury, with they themselves still sitting on the bottom with just 1 point. Queensbury dominated the match from the very start scoring from the Hawks kick off in the very first minute of the game which in spite of the wet and windy conditions was easily converted, the tries came thick and fast with Queensbury scoring on minutes 4, 8, 16, 20, 27 and 30 with all of these except 1 being converted took the half time score to (0) - (40).
The hawks still came out fighting in ths second half with some fantastic tackling by Connor Scott , Joel Davies, Danny Wilson and MOM Craig Watson but unfortunately even these guys couldn't stop Queensbury scoring on minutes 35, 44, 48, 50, 54, 58,and 60 with 4 conversions bringing the full time score to Sheffield (0) Queensbury (76). The score doesn't in any way reflect the effort, hard work or the sheer determination the Hawks lads put in they deserved at the very least 1 try.
Credit must also go to David and his Queensbury lads as they never get big headed or show off and are a pleasure to play against even when like today they beat us

West Bowling (10) 36 Hillsborough Hawks (0) 10
The Hawks met league leaders West Bowling on a very cold and windy Bradford pitch. Bowling opened up the scoring after only 2 minutes but due to the strong winds were unable to convert. The Bowling team dominated the first half and took advantage of their 6 man difference and a few dodgy refereeing decisions, scored again on 14 mins with a converted try taking the half time score to 10 - 0.
The half time Jaffa cakes did their job as the Hawks came out looking like a well oiled machine with Ashley Dillon running on to the ball from the half way line and dodging the West Bowling defence to score 2 mins into the second half, but the wind again took it's toll as Billy Chappell was unable to get the ball between the posts. Some strong tackles by Craig Watson, Kane Bailey, Andrew Farrow, Stefan Kazmierski and Kieran Howard kept the Bowling defence at bay, but yet again the difference in numbers and decisions by the referee saw West Bowling score 3 tries in 6 mins with 2 converted, which dashed their hopes of a comeback. They didn't however, count on the powerful number 19 in the form of William Blackwell running on to the bal,l expertly passed by Andrew Farrow to run 30 metres down the pitch knocking over the West Bowling players like tenpins to crash over the line and score his first try for the Hawks on 41 mins which was finished off nicely with a conversion by Billy Chappell. Not to be out done West Bowling scored on the 43rd and the 49th minute with the last one being converted to end the game Hawks 10 West Bowling 36.

Elland U15's (6) 26 Hillsborough Hawks U15's (12) 12
REPORT
The Hawks played their best match so far this season on a cold, wet and windy pitch against last seasons supplementary plate rivals Elland. It was the first time the two teams have played each other this season and was a brilliant game to watch, the Elland lads opened up the scoring with a converted try on five minutes but were stunned into silence when Stefan Kazmierski crashed over the line eight minutes later, converted by Billy and were totally gob smacked when Ashley Dillon scored a second on twenty four minutes leaving the Hawks flying high at half time with a 12-6 lead.
The elation soon evaporated when Elland came back and scored four tries in seventeen minutes converting two of them to win the game 12-26.
A very well done to new lad David who tackled their number five so hard he was seeing stars for a while, and to Rory who played his first match today and showed great guts and skill, welcome to the team. Well done to all, can't wait to see what our other two games against them will bring
