MILESTONES Last week at Don Valley in Rnd 1 of the NRC against Dewsbury Adrian Veamatahau scored a try on his home Eagles debut. John Crawford scored a try, a goal and a penalty goal on his home Eagles debut.

BATLEY BULLDOGS v SHEFFIELD EAGLES - 27th February 2005


MILESTONES: Adrian Veamatahau scored a try against Doncaster on 19th February so along with Gav Brown has scored in each match this season.!

On 27-Feb-91 in D1 playing at Bradford, Eagles beat “Northern” 10 points to 6

On 27-Feb-92 in D2 playing at DVS, Eagles beat LONDON CRUSADERS 36 - 12.

On 27-Feb-00 now in the NFP on a very wet and windy day at what is now called the Halton Stadium (Autoquest Stadium) Eagles lost a titanic battle to Widnes 3 points to nil. A rare game with no tries.

Sheffield Eagles and Batley have met 22 times since Eagles were born in 1984. Batley have won 9 and Sheffield have won 13. & of these, 7 wins have been at Batley. Since Sheffield were re-formed in November 1999, Batley and Sheffield have met 9 times, with Sheffield winning 5 of these matches.
Eagles biggest defeat at the hands of Batley was on 16th March 2003 in the Arriva Trains Cup. The result was 62 - 12 to Batley and Guy Adams was rushed to hospital with a broken arm shortly after the start of the match. Average score over these 9 games is Sheffield 19 Batley 22

The last time these two sides met was back in 2003 when Eagles had just lost in the NL2 Grand Final to Keighley,, and it was billed as the NL 1 Qualifying Final and in the words of Mark Aston, "It was a game too far" Score Batley 36 Eagles 14
Members of that team still with Eagles are : Morton, Brown C, Brown G, Howieson, Hurst, Tillyer, Turnbull. Hurst scored one Eagles try and Gavin Brown converted it.

Eagles and Bulldogs have not met in League Competition since 2002 Season when Eagles were victorious in both matches.
Gavin Brown played his 130th game for Eagles against Doncaster Dragons last week. And only needs 20 points to reach 800 for the club
Jack Howieson returns today for his 89th "cap", along with Simon Tillyer for his 79th and Nick Turnbull his 59th.
Adrian Veamatahua (AJ) has scored a try in each match this season.

11 players have started both NRC games, 14 players have played in both, 3 have started just one, 1 has started both games on the subs bench and only one has started in the1st 13 and on the subs bench.


SHEFFIELD EAGLES v BATLEY BULLDOGS -
4th March 2005


On the 16th January 2000 Batley were the first team to play the reformed Eagles at Don Valley.
The Eagles Supporters walked from Sheffield Town Hall to The Don Valley Stadium carrying the match ball and presented the ball to Mark Aston pitchside prior to the kick--off. [See photo above]
Gavin Brown experienced the first of his injuries in this match, managing to sustain a broken jaw and was out of action for 6 weeks. Gavin is the only
player still at Eagles who played in that match, although Mark (Aston) is still around, as is Chris Robinson (now on the coaching staff).
Scorers in this match were Micky Johnson, Steve Walker, and 2 goals by Chris Robinson.

Note:Although Richard Goddard is still associated with The Eagles he did not play his 1st Eagles game until the following week (25th January) so in total 4 of the 1999-2000 squad still at Eagles, but only 3 of the "originals"

Tonight’s match will be the 80th for Simon Tillyer, 60th for Nick Turnbull, and if he is fit 90th for Captain Jack Howieson. Has he had the curse of captaincy thrust upon him? All players made captain have suffered serious injuries........ Gavin Brown, Jon Bruce, Richard Goddard, Guy Adams and now Jack.

Against Batley on Sunday 27th February, Jaymes Chapman and Peter Moore made their debuts. Craig Brown is only 7 games away from joining Eagles illustrious 100 club. He has played in 93 games so far scoring 19 tries and 1 goal.

MITCHELL STRINGER rejoined the Eagles on Thursday 3rd March.
He scored his first try for the 1st team on 16th March 2003 against Batley Bulldogs
He made his 1st team debut as a sub against Hunslet on 7th July 2002
He made his 1st team debut (in the starting 13) against Swinton Lions wearing number 10 on 25th August 2002 and scored 2 goals.

He scored his first "HOME" try against Featherstone Rovers on 21st March 2003

FULHAM were the first team to defeat Sheffield Eagles. Eagles had played their 1st ever game on 2nd September 1984 (apart from a friendly), against Rochdale Hornets, and won. Fulham came to Owlerton the following week and spoilt the party by beating Sheffield 14 points to 18.

Almost 20 years ago, 21st April 1985, Fulham beat Sheffield at Craven Park, 40 - 30.

BLACKPOOL PANTHERS
The team which is either a phoenix or a chameleon!
The current Blackpool team started life in the 1989-90 season as Chorley. It became Chorley Borough in the 1991-92 season.(Not to be confused with the Chorley Borough who succeeded Springfield Borough and Blackpool Borough) Chorley were demoted to the National conference League for the 1993-94 season and regained their status in 1995-96 when they became Chorley Chieftains. In 1996 they dropped the name Chieftains and became Lancashire Lynx at the start of 1997 after a short non playing spell as Central Lancashire. At the end of the 1999-2000 season they changed again from Lancahire Lynx to Chorley Lynx until the end of the 2004 season when they left Victory Park again and set up shop in Blackpool for the 2005 season as Blackpool Panthers.
